Day 2

Wednesday June 21, 2017
9:30 – 12:00

Impact of AI on Transportation & Smart Cities

Industry Challenge

AI has a very wide range of potential applications in transportation, from autonomous vehicles to central optimisation of traffic management, and from ride hailing applications to real time optimisation of road pricing. Replacing human drivers with machines could disrupt employment for large numbers of people; how fast will this happen, and will people be able to retrain for other occupations?

Discussion Points

  • How advanced is automation in the UK, and globally, today?
  • Where are the short term opportunities for adoption of AI in transportation?
  • What potential is there for further optimisation using AI of freight logistics?
  • What will it take for people to gain trust in autonomous vehicles?
  • Will regulation inhibit us from innovation?
  • What are the ethical discussions that need to be overcome before we can truly adopt an autonomous future?
