About Jianyu

Jianyu Gao is a rising senior majoring in Computer Science at Columbia University and a current software engineer intern at Atlassian, with previous positions at DHGate.com and Alibaba. They are studying vision and graphics as an undergrad, and work as a research assistant with the Computer Graphics and User Interfaces Lab to develop augmented and virtual reality products and experiences. On campus, they also serve as the Diversity Chair of Womxn in Computer Science and a head organizer for DivHacks, Columbia University and Barnard College’s premier student-run diversity hackathon. Their independent projects include Silverspoon, a natural language processing/machine learning algorithm that predicts whether a post is pro-eating disorders or pro-recovery — based on its contents, not on its tags.
