Nick is the principal technologist for disruptive technologies for the BAE Systems Air sector division. This includes AI and autonomy. He also leads technology strategy and planning for the business unit on behalf of the Chief Technologist.
Nick has nearly 30 years of experience in the aerospace, defence, and security industry. In this time he has worked on flight control, command and control systems, manufacturing robotics, electromagnetic engineering, sensors, and advanced systems concepts. He was the technical lead for many company, UK, and world firsts in the fields of autonomy, sensing, and mixed reality. This has included the invention, development, and demonstrations of the BAE Systems Surrogate UAV and a virtual cockpit and command centre. He has led numerous whitepapers and studies on cyber warfare, space and near space, and AI and autonomy for the business.
Nick is principally a futurist and an inventor with a broad and often deep technology knowledge and experience. He has circa 10 granted patents and a further circa 50 published and classified.
Nick is a visiting professor at Cranfield University assigned to Autonomous and Cyber-Physical Systems. In his spare time he helps his younger brother, one of the pioneers of blockchain technology, on blockchain gaming projects.
