Rich Pierson served as the head of business development for powerhouse creative agency BBH from 2004-2008. However, the high stress nature of his position at BBH caused him to change direction and to study acupuncture. Studying acupuncture led Rich to a chance meeting with co-founder Andy Puddicombe. Andy had recently returned from 10 years in meditative retreat. Rich wanted to find a more peaceful, fulfilling path and Andy wanted to share his life-affirming learnings with the world. So, with a shared vision for demystifying meditation and making it accessible to all, they launched Headspace in 2010. Headspace launched as an events company, and the now-popular meditation app followed two years later. Rich brought his essential expertise in brand development and marketing to make Headspace the success it is today. In 2017, Fast Company identified Headspace as being among “The World’s Most Innovative Companies” and today, with 36 million users in 190 countries, Andy, Rich and the dedicated team at Headspace are delivering on their mission to improve happiness and health around the world.
